No Way Out 2002

Summary: The PPV is remembered as the one the New World Order first appeared on, giving us the first Hogan appearance on WWF PPV since King of the Ring 1993, some nine years earlier. I’m not what you would call a Hogan “fan” per se, so for me it’s not a big occurrence and certainly not as memorable as Hogan vs. Rock at WrestleMania. The rest of the show is an insipid, uninspired mess. Almost a protest to the nWo being signed! It’s like all the boys got together before the show and decided to tank the PPV. I know that’s unlikely, as this isn’t WCW, and Hunter-Angle is pretty good, but the second best match on the PPV is the opening tag team turmoil match, a bout that was totally meaningless. Speaking of which; the top contender stipulations here, the ones that were supposed to shape WrestleMania, meant next to nothing. Angle didn’t get a title shot and ended up stuck with Kane, of all people, in the midcard. Hunter got his title shot back. The tag teams almost all ended up in the tag title match. RVD ended up getting the IC Title, despite his petulance against Goldust and Edge fought Booker T over a shampoo endorsement. Basically as a set up show for WrestleMania this was a failure. As a wrestling show it was mediocre. Not recommended.
Verdict: 38
