No Way Out 2004

WWE Tag Team Championship
Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty (c) vs. The Bashams & Shaniqua
Shaniqua, for those who don’t remember her, was a 2002 Tough Enough participant called Linda Miles. She’s been down in OVW honing her art as a wrestler, or perhaps not according to Jim Cornette, who wasn’t a fan. The WWE wanted her called up quickly and debuted her in June 2003 as a dominatrix and manager of the Basham Brothers, Doug and Danny, two more OVW guys. Doug’s “brother” Danny had previously worked as Damaja and the pair had actually feuded extensively in Ohio. As a team they are vanilla as hell, a common complaint about many of OVW’s samey exports. At least Shaniqua is different, albeit barely competent. This tag division had been really hot until late 2003 when WWE seemed to abandon it. All of a sudden it was mismatched duos, throwbacks, and weak acts. The Bashams are technically fine, but they are so bland it is hard to care about them. Rikishi and Scotty just do all the spots you’d expect of the Too Cool trio. In case you’re wondering where Grandmasta Sexay is, he’s over in TNA, though WWE did re-hire him a few months after this. Not that he lasted long mind, getting released after only a month. The match is mostly heat on Scotty. It’s not a shock that Shaniqua is involved in the finish and Rikishi wins with the Banzai Drop. Most of this match is just white noise.
