SummerSlam ’88

Bad News Brown vs. Ken Patera
Patera’s brief re-push has stalled badly and Brown is a new direction for the WWF. His no nonsense ass-kicking approach is refreshing but the audience is too conditioned to what a babyface should be to actually cheer him. Not that they’re supposed to; he’s a heel. Patera is way too boring to be a babyface. His holds are all dull and Brown finds himself scurrying away from bearhugs and full nelsons. They blow an Irish whip horribly and the fans consider turning on the match, because it’s MSG and those New Yorkers aren’t a forgiving bunch. Brown hits the Ghetto Blaster shortly afterwards to win. A horrible clash of styles with Patera bringing almost nothing to the party. I honestly feel like Brown could have been a big draw for the WWF, but they were never quite sure how to market him. Attitude came too late for Brown.
Final Rating: ¼*
